Multiple Sclerosis

Naturopathic Multiple Sclerosis Treatment

Multiple Sclerosis, or MS for short, is a debilitating autoimmune disease that affects the central nervous system.  It is estimated that more than 2 million people worldwide and around 400,000 Americans are affected by MS, and the disease is more commonly found in women than in men.

When someone has MS, their immune system attacks the protective coating, myelin, which covers the nerves and the spinal cord. Myelin is responsible for insulating the nerves and transmitting nerve signals from the brain to other parts of the body. Myelin does slowly grow back, but not fast enough to make up for the deterioration that occurs when someone has MS. When the myelin is attacked and destroyed by the immune system, the brain signals are no longer able to be transmitted. This causes people to experience blurred vision, a loss of coordination, muscle weakness and eye pain. The symptoms of MS can go into periods of complete remission, but they often relapse and get worse over time. No one knows what causes MS, and there is no cure for the disease. However, there are procedures and treatments that exist which are designed to slow the progress of the disease and prevent MS attacks.

At Flow Natural Health Care, our highly skilled and experienced naturopathic physicians can help you naturally manage the symptoms of your MS, so that you can live a more comfortable and healthy life.
