Food Introduction Consultations

Naturopathic Food Introduction Consultations

Many parents these days begin feeding their children solid foods before their digestive systems can properly handle them.  Most doctors recommend that you wait until your child is at least 6 months old before feeding them solid foods. At Flow Natural Health Care, we have years of experience working with parents to brainstorm schedules for introducing solid foods to their infants. This way we are able to determine which foods your baby’s digestive system can handle. Proper food introduction is a great way to prevent the development of food allergies, and can go a long way in establishing healthy eating habits for your child.

Medical professionals agree that women should only feed their babies breast milk or formula until they are about 6 months old. Introducing solid foods before this time can cause diarrhea, gastroenteritis and choking. It has also been proven that feeding your baby exclusively with breast milk for a prolonged period of time will reduce the likelihood of them developing food allergies. The key is to gradually introduce your baby to solid foods one at a time. Generally, vegetables are introduced first as they are rich in iron and fiber and are good for your baby’s health. Then you can move on to some fruits and grains. Foods that are notoriously allergenic such as peanuts, soy or dairy should be introduced last, when your baby has had ample time to develop a stout digestive system.

We recognize that not all babies are the same and not all parents think the same, so we will carefully tailor a food introduction schedule based on your baby’s individual needs.
