Naturopathic Diarrhea & Constipation Treatment
Diarrhea and constipation are two things that most people experience from time to time. For teens and adults, it is usually not a big deal, but for children and infants, diarrhea and constipation can be very serious problems.
Diarrhea refers to loose, watery bowel movements that take place more often than normal bowel movements. Viral infections commonly cause diarrhea in small children and infants. The most troublesome complication caused by diarrhea in infants is dehydration. Moderate to severe diarrhea can cause major fluid loss in small children, and this fluid loss can be life threatening if it is not carefully monitored.
Constipation in children is a very common condition. It refers to sporadic bowel movements or very firm and dry stools. Causes of constipation in children range from toilet training anxiety to poor diet. Some signs that your child may be constipated include bowel movements that are painful or difficult to pass, stomach pains, nausea, and stools with visible blood on the surface. Constipation is typically not a huge problem in children, and will usually pass within a few days. However, if it doesn’t go away after two weeks or so, it could be the sign of a much more serious health condition.
