Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

Naturopathic Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Treatment

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the medical terminology for an enlarged prostate. It is noncancerous and is quite common in older men. While it is noncancerous, it can still cause complications and problems in the urinary tract. There are several different ways to treat BPH, from surgery to lifestyle changes.

When you have BPH, you will notice symptoms mainly in your urinary system. You may struggle with a weakened urine flow, have difficulty starting to urinate or experience stopping and starting during urination, have a constant need to urinate, can’t fully empty your bladder, develop a urinary tract infection or your kidneys may not function optimally. Only about half of the men with BPH experience severe enough symptoms to warrant a trip to the doctor. It is still not known exactly what causes the prostate to enlarge, but some experts believe it is caused by changes in the levels of sex hormones present in your body as you get older. All we know for sure is that the male prostate enlarges over time. BPH is very rare in men under 40, but about 1 in 4 men experience some level of BPH by the time they reach age 55.

Our highly trained and experienced naturopathic physicians at Flow Natural Health Care can diagnose, treat and care for any symptoms associated with BPH. Don’t hesitate to get yourself tested if you are experiencing symptoms; an enlarged prostate is not always benign and prostate cancer is much easier to treat if detected early.
